Burda blouse complete

Finally got around to finishing this blouse. Where does the time go?
In completing it, I can say that I do like this style, but am not sure it is wise for me to wear it! too short, just too short. But it will be a comfortable house blouse, and in a brighter pattern, with some piping like the original, I would make this again. In another Burda magazine, I found a very similar design without the front tucks and perhaps that would be the one to make a second time. I think this is a tuxedo styling, if I am not mistaken.
The blotch on the lower right front is water from the iron, which makes me admit it is time to replace this iron with a better quality one.

I did not expect to find the back of much interest. But I have to say I find these tucks really pretty.
The pattern was drafted well, everything fit beautifully together. I will have to trace off more Burda patterns for future garments, they seldom disappoint.
This blouse/shirt could be called a "poet shirt", something you wear when you are being creative. Perhaps I should take up painting or perhaps write a novel and wear it during that time!

And now on to Jacket #3 - the Palmer Pletsch jean jacket in a paisley brocade. Looking forward to this garment.

  1. Hello Julie . I like you shirt . If you wanted to make it again without the tucks just fold them out I think that given you have the tucks in the back of the shirt you could just fold the front ones out without any drama . You could always try it on the shirt you have made and see. I do like it though and have a few shirts like this myself which are very comfy and are good when worn with narrower pants . You will see a red one I made on my blog . Have a look. Mem

  2. thanks mem for your comment, I looked at your blog and saw the lovely red shirt. Yes, the tucks could be folded out without sacrificing any size as the shirt is so loose.
And many patterns do creative things with those front inserts - pin tucks, lace insertion, lots of ideas to be creative with this pattern.

  3. I do like the back of the blouse Julie; those pleats are so nice. I would like the front to be smooth with no pleats for a smoother look. If you feel it is short, then I would have to lengthen it as I have a long torso (and short legs).
On the whole, it is a nice blouse and you did a great job on it.

  4. Ann, when I said short, I meant that I was too short to wear this style, LOL. I have other Burda patterns with a smooth front and I may try one of those in future with the pleated back. Now if only I could grow a few inches!

  5. Got it now. Then I might be too short also. Am 5'6" tall.
I would love to see a shirt with smooth front with that wonderful pleat in the back. Looking forward to seeing it if you make one.

  6. Hah, you have 5 inches over me then! I think you could wear this, but me not so much. I still like it though and it will be worn round the house.

  8. I should adjust my camera settings, the blouse is a lilac mini-check that actually looks blue from about 10 feet away. I guess my photos are over-exposed.
